For the followers of Hinduism, the Bhagavad Gita is the essential sacred text. The Bhagavad Gita consists of seven hundred verses of a conversation between Arjuna, a warrior prince, and Lord Krishna, a human manifestation of God called Bhagavan worshipped by Hindus. The Bhagavad Gita is actually a portion of the Mahabharata, a larger epic of India. There are a total of eighteen chapters included in the Bhagavad Gita.

The Bhagavad Gita details events prior to the start of the Kurukshetra War. Arjuna begins to second guess fighting in the battle as Krishna provides insight into the role of dharma, a universal harmony. Utilizing the knowledge of the universe, Krishna expounds upon the realization of Atman, the soul, being immortal as well as eternal in the Bhagavad Gita.

There are five truths detailed in the Bhagavad Gita. The truths include time or Kaala, the individualized soul or Jiva, nature or Prakrti, supreme controller or Ishvara, and divine law or Dharma. Understanding the truths found in the Bhagavad Gita allows for a follower of Hinduism to find a life of purpose.

The discussion between Krishna and Arjuna also encompasses the paths of yoga in the Bhagavad Gita. The paths provide the means to find enlightenment through knowledge, action, devotional service, and meditation. Using yoga can harness the power to find the enlightenment needed to attain the realization of Atman. Yoga has numerous meanings, but with the Bhagavad Gita the meaning specific to the text includes finding unity within the self, Atman, and the Supreme Being, Bhagavan. Along with attunement in the Bhagavad Gita, there are also the additional meanings of the skill of action, a unified outlook, and peace of mind. Attaining a balance with yoga allows a follower to focus actions of the self to the divine through the freeing of the mind.

There are also things to avoid in life detailed in the Bhagavad Gita. Not falling into the evils or arishadvargas of jealousy, delusion, pride, lust, greed, or anger ensures followers of finding the path of truth and a life of fullness.

Reading and understanding the text of the Bhagavad Gita, the followers of Hinduism find a means to a wholeness of being. Attaining enlightenment gives the life of a follower meaning and purpose.

For additional knowledge on the Bhagavad Gita, read Transcendence by Navin Doshi or visit www.NavinDoshi.com.

Order Transcendence by Navin Doshi

Price of Transcendence $20.00 US

Questions?
E-Mail to Ithaca Press
books@ithacapress.com
(607) 273-2870

<div align="center""> Copyright © 2009-2010 Ithaca Press.
