Buddha found Nirvana and attempted to explain the findings to the followers of Buddhism. Nirvana is a hard concept to attempt to explain. Philosophers and scholars have explained the concept throughout the years, but the definition is never truly understood. Nirvana simply exists, has existed, and will continue to exist indefinitely.

Nirvana is simply absolute truth. Complete understanding of the nature of actual existence is the concept of Nirvana. Coming to understand the meaning of Nirvana is complicated and perhaps, like Buddha, if the proper knowledge or enlightenment is achieved a person can come to truly grasp the concept fully. For people just trying to rationalize the idea of knowing Nirvana or the absolute truth can be impossible to discern. Attaining the state of Nirvana comes from a life of moral excellence.

Achieving a state of Nirvana is accomplished with a realization of a higher state of mind. Using a higher cognitive brain function can progress a person to the advanced level of reasoning needed to even comprehend the concept of Nirvana. Fully understanding the connection between every form of life and the unity achieved from the connection is Nirvana. The complete awareness of every form of consciousness is the knowledge of absolute truth.

Enlightenment is achieved through rigorous mental training and meditation, but Nirvana is the perfect state in Buddhism and the ultimate goal. Achieving Nirvana is the ultimate state of happiness for Buddhists. When Nirvana has been reached, the whole body has essentially reached a different plane of existence. A person no longer senses the self and there is no suffering or torment since the being is content with the new understanding of reality. There is no need for the notion of the physical body necessary since the mental state of understanding is absolute when Nirvana is reached.

Finding the means to achieve the concept of Nirvana is truly an undertaking. A life can be devoted to achieving Nirvana, but in the modern world, the time to slow down and rediscover the meaning of being human just seems like an impossible task. Happiness is a human goal, but the type of happiness people want is completely different from the happiness achieved through Nirvana.

The book Transcendence by Navin Doshi has further information on the concept of Nirvana.
