The highs and lows of life can be attributed to the work of the gods. Negative events can be seen as a trial sent by the god of the religion to make sure the person is on the path of righteousness. There are a vast number of religions found throughout the countries and peoples of the world, but there are only a handful of religions encompassing a larger number of the people as followers. The major world religions include Islam, Hinduism, Jainism, Christianity, Buddhism, and Judaism. </p> <p>The religion of Islam is a faith based on the teachings of the prophet Mohammad. Allah is the only God of the religion. Muslims memorize the teachings of the sacred scriptures the Quran. The followers also rely on the Torah, the Gospel, and the Psalms for teachings. Muslims have a responsibility to make a pilgrimage to Mecca at a point in the lifetime. Followers also believe in angels, prophets, divine creed or predestination of the choices a person will inevitably make in life, as well as life after death.</p> <p>The religion of Hinduism is primarily practiced in India. The followers of the religion believe in the universal life force of existence, Brahman. Hindus will reincarnate after death until liberation has been found to end the life and death cycle. Shiva is the main god of the religion. The religion encompasses every aspect of life from society and politics to the arts and health, with yoga being a significant aspect of health and well being. </p> <p>The religion of Jainism is similar to the beliefs of Hinduism, but not identical. Jainism looks to attain asceticism in life to free a person from the soul. The religion teaches to purify the body, ideas, thought, and the soul. Ambika is the mother goddess of Jainism among the numerous gods of the religion. Reincarnation comes after death unless the person has reached a certain level of karma and development of the spirit. The Kalpa Sutra and the Akaranga Sutra are the sacred texts of the religion. </p> <p>Looking for meaning in life can be complicated and filled with frustration. Religion provides people with a way to discover the path and purpose in life specific to the individual.
