Certain people can become famous for entertainment value, for a particular event or crime, politics, or simply just being an important spiritual figure in history. Mahatma Gandhi is such a person, very rarely seen in history, impacting a whole world.</p> <p>With the work Gandhi did throughout such an important life, the impact of the lessons imparted opened the eyes of the people of the world. The lessons revealed by Gandhi showed the human race a way to go about things without resorting to violence. Using nonviolence to gain the independence of India was an amazing accomplishment for Gandhi and the people as well. Through the Indian Freedom Movement, Gandhi used his influence to focus a front against the British rule of the country of India.</p> <p>Gandhi also fought against injustices in South Africa prior to returning home to India. Working to remove the injustices and racism against the Indians living in South Africa, Gandhi started a civil rights movement to address the issues arising from the British Empire present in South Africa.</p> <p>Gandhi believed and practiced certain things. The pursuit of truth, including the self, was incredibly important for Gandhi. The belief in nonviolence can be found in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, along with additional religious practices. Gandhi put into practice an idea ever present, but rarely used in such a large scale.</p> <p>Gandhi practiced vegetarianism, a foundational practice of Hinduism, devoutly. The conviction toward vegetarianism created the basis for almost every part of the life Gandhi led as well as the devout faith in Hinduism. The life of celibacy practiced even while married, was an additional ideal of Gandhi. Though followers could not always understand the methods and experiments of the life Gandhi practiced, the temptations were meant to test the convictions established earlier in life.</p> <p>Leading a simple life was also a strong ideal for Gandhi and a way to work toward independence from the British Empire. Removing the clothes of success and wearing only simple robes woven from cloth made personally, made Gandhi accessible to every person.</p> <p>Throughout the 78 years of the life Gandhi led, the strength of character and compassion toward the peoples inflicted with injustice were ever present.
