Harmony and Balance in ManHarmony can be defined as a consistent, orderly or pleasing arrangement of parts. Balance can be defined as a state of equilibrium. Man, being a complex combination of parts, strives for harmony and balance between these parts to be able to achieve transcendence. In Navin Doshi’s book Transcendence: Saving Us from Ourselves, ISBN 978-098151163-4, Doshi discusses how man strives for harmony and balance between soul and nature. To achieve inner harmony, the activities of one of these parts of man cannot interfere with the activities of the other part. Yet, soul and nature frequently compete to be what man follows. As man strives for harmony and balance within himself, so the world strives for harmony and balance between two distinctly different groups, intellectuals and intuitivists. Should both of these different groups be in balance and complement each other, harmony exists in the world. Such balance takes work and concentration to achieve. As man strives to achieve harmony in the world, he can look towards how he can achieve harmony between a pair of opposites. Several possibilities exist. Man can be silent, not offending either of the pair of opposites. Man can synthesize the two opposites’ points of view, blending these together to create balance and harmony.
