The mythologist spent a lifetime providing people with history and information pertaining to the myths of the world. Making the myths important and reflective of the countries of origin, Joseph Campbell gave the myths of the world cultures significance as being part of the foundation of world mythology.</p> <p>Joseph Campbell started out simply with an interest in Native American cultures and myths, but the interest increased to eventually encompass the myths of the cultures of the whole world. Joseph Campbell was a man enthralled by the work of finding the myths of the globe and the intricacies contained within.</p> <p>During the 83 years of life, Campbell came to be known as the leader in the study of the myths of the globe. The contributions to world myth have been incredible since an endless amount of myths had never been written down until Joseph Campbell took the time to do so. Campbell wanted the people of the planet to know and understand the different myths of the cultures throughout the world. Years of work attempted to make the myths accessible to everyday people. Through the books The Hero with a Thousand Faces to The Masks of God and finally to the conversation with Bill Moyer in the television series The Power of Myth, also later in a book of the same name, Joseph Campbell made myths accessible to the people of the world.</p> <p>The Hero with a Thousand Faces is arguably the best of the work of Campbell, at least the greatest influentially. The book gave readers insight into the journey of the hero and made the information available to the everyday reader and put the concepts into the forefront of the knowledge of people. The four volumes of The Masks of God group the myths of the world in an organized manner. While not as publicly known, The Masks of God provides readers a vast wealth of knowledge regarding the myths of the world cultures.</p> <p>The PBS series special The Power of Myth brought Joseph Campbell even further into common knowledge. The conversation with Bill Moyer showed viewers the significance of myths and the archetypes found within.
