James Maxwell and Albert Einstein were equally influential regarding theories of light. The two provided the means for Bohr to create the theory of particle and wave duality. Scientists had attempted to determine the nature of light and up until Bohr there were conflicting theories from James Maxwell and Albert Einstein. The two scientists detailed the different pieces of light, but scientists could not agree on whether light was acting as a wave or a particle since the theories had merit individually. Countless tests could prove the theories correct, but a definitive solution to the problem could not be ascertained. Niels Bohr finally expounded on the theories and combined the two to formulate the particle and wave duality of light to revolutionize the thinking in the scientific world.</p> <p>The laws of James Maxwell theorized the wave aspect of light. In the theories, Maxwell could prove light acted like a wave. With the interference and diffraction of light proven correct, scientists believed, finally, light was an electromagnetic wave. The wave theory of light seemed to provide the necessary information on the phenomenon and was accepted throughout the field.</p> <p>However, the theories of James Maxwell could not provide the complete picture of light. Albert Einstein also added to the information with the theory of particles. With the theory, Einstein explained light functions as particles called photons. Consequently, the problem arose to determine the theory correctly detailing the aspect of light.</p> <p>When Niels Bohr figured out the solution to the problem of determining the theory of light, scientists could not fully grasp the idea of the dual nature of light. However, in order to correctly look at light, the duality needs to be understood since light acts as a wave and a particle depending on the situation. Looking at the two separate theories independently does not allow a person to fully realize the complexities of light. Only taking the two theories together does a person see the full nature of light acting as a wave and as a particle.</p> <p>Bohr is significant in the area of quantum physics.
