Pairs of Opposites in NatureNature can be defined as the particular combination of qualities belonging to a person, animal, thing, or class by birth, origin, or constitution; native or inherent character. Nature’s nature creates pairs of opposites, opposites that cannot survive without the other. This pair of opposites philosophy carries through to Western and Eastern points of view. They are opposite, yet complement each other and one would not exist without the other. In his book Transcendence: Saving Us from Ourselves, ISBN 978-098151163-4, Navin Doshi discusses marriage as being the ultimate example of a pair of opposites that thrive in Nature. Each member of the marriage, in the traditional sense, has a different sex. They learn to live together and thrive even though their points of view and their very genetic make up are direct opposites. The male and the female complement each other even though they are opposites. Another frequent way of looking at pairs of opposites would be to say they are two sides of the same coin. Because the coin must have two sides, neither can exist without the other but must complement the other to form the whole coin. In the same way, the husband and the wife must complement each other to make the marriage a whole item.
