The <em>Rig Veda</em> encompasses enormous amounts of hymns telling the mythology of the Hindu gods. The foundation of the Hindu religion is also thought to be based in the <em>Rig Veda</em>. Historically, the Aryans wrote down the <em>Rig Veda</em>, originally an oral collection of hymns passed on through generations.</p> <p>The hymns of the <em>Rig Veda</em> for the Hindu gods are written in verse. There are different types of hymns, including blessings, sacrifices, praises, and even curses to the gods included in the <em>Rig Veda</em>. The Aryan people used the hymns of the <em>Rig Veda</em> to praise the gods of the practiced religion. The <em>Rig Veda</em> uses the personification of nature as the subject of the hymns to convey the ideas to the readers of the text.</p> <p>Since the <em>Rig Veda</em> is written in poetic verse, the reader can easily chant the verses for use when praising the gods of the Hindu religion. Chanting is a powerful means of becoming close to the god of a personal religion. Chanting puts the worshipper closer in touch with a religious feeling of closeness to the god. The <em>Rig Veda</em> has a beautiful language a worshipper can truly make an individual part of the mind and soul. Creating wholeness with the gods gives life to the religion and provides a way to live through the teachings of the <em>Rig Veda.</em></p> <p>The <em>Rig Veda</em> is an influential text regarding the Hinduism. The caste system of Indian culture was developed through the hymns of the <em>Rig Veda</em> as well as texts from numerous <em>Vedas</em> explaining the shape of society based on the remains of the god Purusha.</p> <p>Besides the <em>Rig Veda</em>, there are three additional <em>Veda</em> texts in the religion of Hinduism. The <em>Athara Veda</em>, the <em>Sama Veda</em>, and the <em>Yajur Veda</em> are the three Hindu <em>Veda</em> texts besides the <em>Rig Veda</em>. The <em>Athara Veda</em> is a text containing the wisdom of the sage Athara. The <em>Sama Veda</em> contains numerous hymns or chants to be used for sacrifices. The <em>Yajur Veda</em> contains information on proper sacrificing. While the three texts are important to the practice and teachings of the Hindu religion, the <em>Rig Veda</em> is the significant text for Hinduism.</p> <p><em>Transcendence</em> by Navin Doshi provides additional information on the <em>Rig Veda</em>.
